Richard Leonard Viernum

Richard Leonard "PA" Viernum, 73, of Elkville, passed away at 10:09 A.M., Monday, September 29, 2003 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Leonard "PA" was born April 30, 1930 at Royalton, IL to John and Carrie (Quillman) Viernum.
He married Thelma J. Null on November 8, 1949 at Benton, IL and she survives.
They moved to the Chicago area where Leonard worked for forty-three years as a signal foreman with the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad.  Upon retirement they returned "HOME" to Elkville, IL in 1991.
Leonard was a Christian and a member of Elkville Christian Church.  He will be sadly missed but remembered as a kind gentleman, always caring about others.  Leonard "PA" loved fishing, children and life.  He was also a member of the Railroad Union.
He is survived by his wife of Elkville, one son - Larry Gene Viernum and wife Kathy of South Chicago Heights, IL, one granddaughter - Katie Ellen Viernum of South Chicago Heights, IL, four brothers - Wendell Viernum of Chicago, Chester Viernum of Ava, Floyd Viernum and wife Mary of Benton, and Kenneth "Kent" Viernum and wife Peggy of Zeigler, one sister - Edna West of Franklin Park, IL and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son - Richard L. Viernum Jr., one brother - Logan Viernum, and two sisters - Anna May Thomlinson and Wanda O'Hare.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 3, 2003 at the Elkville Christian Church in Elkville with Bro. Gary Pruitt officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and at the church on Friday from 9 A.M. until the time of service.
Interment was in the Miners Cemetery at Royalton, IL.
Friends may make memorials to the Elkville Christian Church Building Fund.
